BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE IVORY COAST AND THE 3rd METROPOLIS WIN WORLD FORUM
The Ivory Coast is a Republic located in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea. It is bordered to the West by Liberia and Guinea, to the North by Burkina Faso and Mali and Ghana to the East, with a coastline running along the South, dense forests in the interior, and the savannah in the North of the country. With a population estimated to be 21,925,093 in 2012, it covers an area of 322,463 km2. The currency is the CFA franc. The South has a hot and humid equatorial climate. This southern region is home to the city of Abidjan, which has been the economic capital of the Ivory Coast since 1983, when the city of Yamoussoukro was established as the political capital.
The City of Abidjan has a particular type of decentralised communities, consisting of ten (10) Municipalities, namely: Yopougon, Attécoubé, Adjamé Abobo, Cocody, Plateau, Treichville, Marcory, Kumasi and Port-Bouet, as well as three (3) sub-prefectures – Songon, Bingerville and Anyama. It is a modern metropolis, surrounded by a significant body of water which occupies 15% of the surface area. It is also home to one hundred or so villages, which gives it a special charm where modernity and traditional happily exist side by side.
This is the city of Abidjan, a member of Metropolis as is the Ivory Coast by association, which has the honour of hosting the 3rd Metropolis Women’s International Network World Forum.
