Getting ready for the UN Habitat Gouverning Council: the role of cities in creating improved economic opportunities

The United Nations Agency in charge of the Habitat Agenda (UN-Habitat) is holding its 24th Governing Council on 15-19 April in Nairobi, Kenya.

This year’s Council will take as its special theme: ‘Sustainable urban development: the role of cities in creating improved economic opportunities for all, with special references to youth and gender”.

Registration opens for the 3rd Forum of Dynamic Cities NEED WOMEN: ‘Women and Armed Conflict’

Abidjan will be the host city for the 3rd Forum of Dynamic Cities NEED WOMEN. The meeting will take place from the 24 to 27 September 2013. The chosen theme for the event is ‘Women and Armed Conflict’ and will gather experts, political representatives and academics from around the world for an in-depth discussion on the problems facing women  in this context.

Paris plays host to the Global Conference of Local Elected Women

The conference “Gender Equality, a Priority for Global Development”, organised by Paris City Council with the support of UCLG and Metropolis, was held on 31 January and 1 February. The conference brought together participants from different parts of the world, among whom were representatives from various antennae of the Metropolis Women International Network, including Abidjan, Dakar, Pune, Santiago de Chile, Barcelona and Brussels.

Global Conference of Local Elected Women – Paris

Metropolis organizes the round table “Women’s access to essential services and their contribution to new methods of financing”, with elected representatives from different continents. The main subject will be micro credits and participatory budgeting. It will also highlight the creativity of women to access different utilities in the city such as sanitary water, electricity and accommodation.

 

Metropolis participates in the session “Women Transform Cities”

On 8 October 2012, Metropolis took part in the session “Cities and Women. How Women Transform Urban Spaces to Inclusive Places” within the framework of the 6th Urban Knowledge and Research Symposium organised by the World Bank in Barcelona.

Metropolis meets Urban Women Practitioner Academy at the World Urban Forum 6 in Naples

Sixty women from 12 different countries have met from 29 to 31 August to exchange strategies, good practices and action priorities leading to advance pro-poor, women inclusive urban development at the Centro Interdipartimentale di Recerca Federico II University of Architecture (LUPT) in preparation for the World Urban Forum.
