Lack of progress in gender equality features among main conclusions of the latest meeting of UN Women

The Metropolis International Women’s Network took part once again in the 58 Commission on the Status of Women organized by UN Women and held in New York from 10 to 21 March 2014.

As the International Women’s Day celebrations approach, the Metropolis Women International Network gears up for its joint activities with UN Women.  As every year, a delegation of representatives of Metropolis Women will participate in the 58th Commission on Status of Women (CSW), which begins in a week from now (from the 10th to the 21st of March), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women #orangeday

The Secretary General's Campaign UNITE to End Violence Against Women has proclaimed the 25th of each month Orange Day.Among other actions, the Orange Day invites us to wear something orange to highlight its calls for the eradication of violence against women without reservation, equivocation or delay.

In July last year the Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign proclaimed every 25th of the month as Orange Day. Initiated and led by the UNiTE campaign Global Youth Network, worldwide activities implemented on this day by UN country offices and civil society organizations strive to highlight issues relevant to preventing and ending violence against women and girls, not only once a year, on 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), but every month.

The 3rd World Forum "Dynamic cities need women" brings together leaders in Abidjan to promote women’s rights

Almost 3,000 people took part in the 3rd World Forum of the Metropolis Women International Network entitled “Dynamic Cities Need Women”, which came to an end last week in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast.

Representatives from governments around the world, UNESCO, UN-Habitat and UN Women, as well as from various Ivorian ministries and the consular corps lent their support by attending the forum, which was held from 24 to 27 September on the theme of “Women and Armed Conflict”.
